Gear Guide: Klettersack by Topo Designs

Topo Designs is exactly what you would expect—a small mountain brand based out of Denver, Colorado, from extremely humble beginnings.

As with all of these stories, founders Jedd Rose and Mark Hansen were not satisfied with the offerings available on the market for gear. They wanted a company that created the same stuff they grew up using with classic styling, functionality, and excellent durability. So, Jedd bought a sewing machine in 2008 and began conceptualizing and designing backpacks in his Fort Collins, Colorado, basement, while Mark set out around Denver developing relationships and partners to help bring this idea to fruition.

It was a success, and today they are still in the mode of making sure the products they sell are incredibly well-made. This all started with the Klettersack, the timeless forefather of carrying stuff on your back. The Klettersack is everything you would expect from a robust, durable, American-made backpack. Its styling is timeless and utilitarian, constructed from 1000D Cordura Nylon, 420D pack cloth liner, and 1050D ballistic Cordura, and to top it all off, leather is provided by none other than American leather staple, Horween.

At $189, it is not a cheap investment, but it is an investment. Topo Designs backpacks are incredibly durable and something you will have for the rest of your life. No need to question their commitment to their products with their MAP Guarantee. Topo Designs stands behind their bags and offers a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. While this does not cover neglect, accidents or improper care, it is worth noting that Topo Designs has an in-house repair facility and can make your gear new again if you need them to.
