Subscribe to our weekly newsletter Features that Set the Stage The exterior of the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X exemplifies boldness and purpose. Its chiseled front grille, characterized by the iconic GMC badge, commands attention on and off the road. The muscular wheel arches house imposing 20-inch wheels that effortlessly traverse various terrains, epitomizing the vehicle’s versatile nature. A key highlight of the Canyon AT4X lies in its advanced technological offerings. The cabin boasts a futuristic infotainment system with a large touchscreen display, seamlessly integrating navigation, entertainment, and connectivity features. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility ensure that drivers stay seamlessly connected to their digital lives, while a premium sound system envelopes passengers in an immersive audio experience. The interior exudes refinement and comfort, with premium leather seating that is both inviting and supportive. Thoughtful details, such as contrast stitching and brushed metal accents, elevate the cabin’s ambiance, creating an environment that is as luxurious as it is functional. Multiple USB ports, wireless charging, and ample storage spaces reflect the AT4X’s commitment to modern convenience. Under the Hood: Performance Unleashed The heart of the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X lies in its robust powertrain options, designed to cater to a range of driving preferences. A 2.7L turbo high output engine packs a punch, delivering a hearty dose of 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque for those who crave raw power. It emphasizes efficiency without compromising performance, making it an attractive choice for those with an eye on fuel economy. The AT4X’s capability extends to its towing and hauling prowess, with a best-in-class max available towing capacity of 7,700 lbs. With advanced towing features such as trailer sway control, integrated brake controller, and available camera systems providing enhanced visibility, towing heavy loads becomes a more manageable task. The truck’s bed is equipped with innovative features like tie-downs and cargo management solutions, reaffirming its status as a practical workhorse. Behind the Wheel: Driving Impressions Climbing into the driver’s seat of the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X is a revelation. The elevated driving position offers a commanding view of the road ahead, instilling a sense of confidence whether navigating through urban streets or tackling off-road trails. The vehicle’s responsive steering and suspension tuning strike an impressive balance between comfort and agility, ensuring a controlled and composed ride. On highways, the AT4X’s refined aerodynamics contribute to a smooth and quiet journey, enhancing driver comfort during long hauls. The available adaptive cruise control system combines with lane-keeping assist to facilitate semi-autonomous driving, adding an extra layer of convenience during extended journeys. Exploring the Off-Road Trails We got the opportunity to truly drive it off-road. Into the Blue Ridge Mountains, we hit dirt trails that twisted and turned up the hill, and even a decent obstacle with some water. One of the standout features of the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X is its off-road prowess. The AT4X variant is equipped with an array of specialized components designed to conquer the most challenging terrains, a step up from the AT4 model. An off-road suspension system provides enhanced 3 inches of ground clearance, where the AT4 model only has 2 inches, allowing the truck to tackle rocky paths and uneven surfaces with ease. Skid plates protect vital components, while front and rear electronic locking differentials ensure maximum traction in demanding situations. Engaging the truck’s various driving modes transforms the driving experience, recalibrating various systems to optimize performance on challenging surfaces. The AT4X includes Baja mode, which Hill descent control aids in navigating steep inclines, while hill start assist prevents rollback on uphill starts. Whether exploring a muddy trail or climbing over boulders, the AT4X demonstrates its capability as a true off-road champion. The other AT4X-exclusive feature is the Multimatic DSSV Dampers where three separate spool valves control damping and three connected chambers for fluid flow. Another welcomed feature is the waterproof front and rear cameras. Various camera angles allow the driver to see 360 degrees around the truck while driving in real time. It makes seeing upcoming obstacles much easier and helps maneuver through them with ease. The split screen allows you to see the underbody camera view along with the side views at the same time. And if you’re worried about dirt, they have a feature to wash them off for unstoppable use. In Conclusion: A Triumph of Engineering The 2023 GMC AT4X embodies the spirit of innovation and adaptability that defines modern pickup trucks. With a compelling blend of technological sophistication, rugged design, and impressive performance, it appeals to drivers seeking a vehicle that effortlessly transitions between work and play. The driving experience is characterized by comfort, control, and confidence, whether on the open road or venturing off the beaten path. As the automotive and overlanding landscape continues to evolve, the AT4X stands as a testament to GMC’s commitment to pushing boundaries and delivering exceptional vehicles that captivate drivers and passengers alike.
