But who wants to spend their precious morning hours cooking up a storm? Better to save the time in your day to make a filling dinner after you’ve accomplished all your big goals for the day. That’s why we’ve put together a list of ten easy camping breakfast recipes – 5 to reheat and 5 cold – that you can prep ahead of time at home, so you can hit the road without sacrificing a delicious start to your day. 5 Warm Breakfasts If you’ve got the time for a quick reheat, there are some great breakfasts out there that you can make ahead. It’s as simple as getting everything together at home and storing in your fridge or freezer until you’re ready to eat. Here are five of our favorite breakfasts to reheat over our camp stove: Subscribe to our weekly newsletter Breakfast Burritos A breakfast burrito is a satisfying and portable meal that can be easily prepped at home. Cook up some scrambled eggs, diced potatoes, and your choice of breakfast meat (such as bacon, sausage, or tofu) and wrap it all up in a tortilla. Add cheese, salsa, or avocado for some extra flavor. We like to freeze the burritos ahead of time and reheat them on a camp stove or fire when you’re ready to eat. Frittata Muffins Starbucks egg bites, anyone? Frittata muffins are a portable and customizable breakfast option that are easy to make ahead of time. Beat eggs with your favorite veggies (such as spinach, peppers, and onions) and meat (such as ham or bacon), pour the mixture into a muffin tin, and bake until golden. You could even do these with just egg whites, or fancy up your add-ins as much as you like. These “muffins” can be stored in your cooler or fridge and reheated when you’re ready to eat. Breakfast Sandwiches If you’re looking for a savory breakfast option, try making your own breakfast sandwiches. Cook up some eggs and your choice of breakfast meat (such as sausage or ham), and add cheese and any other toppings you want (like tomato or avocado) on a toasted English muffin or bagel. Wrap the sandwiches in foil and store them in the fridge or freezer, then just heat them up on a camp stove or over the fire. Sausage and Egg Breakfast Casserole If you’re camping with a group, a breakfast casserole is a great option that you can prep ahead of time and bake in a Dutch oven or over a campfire. Bake precooked sausage, beaten eggs, cubed frozen potatoes, and cheese in a baking dish in the oven before you head out. Cover the dish with foil and store it in a cooler until you’re ready to reheat it. Pancake Bites Pancake bites are a fun and portable breakfast option that can be made ahead of time and stored in a container. Mix pancake batter according to package instructions and pour it into a greased muffin tin. Add any mix-ins you like (we prefer blueberries or chocolate chips) and bake until golden. Store the pancake bites in a container and reheat them on a camp stove or fire when you’re ready to eat. 5 Cold Breakfasts Overnight Oats Overnight oats are a classic make-ahead breakfast, perfect for those early mornings on the road. Simply mix rolled oats, your favorite milk (dairy or non-dairy, or even a spoonful of yogurt), and any add-ins you like (such as fresh berries, nuts, or honey) in a jar or container. Let it sit in the fridge overnight, and you’ll wake up to a delicious and filling breakfast. Bonus points if you pack it in a portable container for an on-the-go meal. Yogurt Parfait Another easy and delicious breakfast option is a yogurt parfait. Layer Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, and granola in a jar or container for a protein-packed and satisfying meal. You can even add in chia seeds or nuts for some extra crunch. Pack it in a cooler with some ice packs for a refreshing breakfast on a warm morning. If we’re feeling exceptionally lazy (or we’re running super low on time) we’ll just throw some yogurts and a bag of granola in our trucks and hit the road. Homemade Breakfast Bars If you’re looking for a grab-and-go breakfast option that doesn’t require any heating or prep, try making your own breakfast bars. Mix oats, nut butter, honey, and your favorite mix-ins (such as chocolate chips, dried fruit, or nuts) and press the mixture into a baking dish. Cut the bars into individual portions and store them in the fridge or freezer for an easy breakfast on the go. Chia Pudding Chia pudding is overnigh oats’ cool hipster cousin. This healthy and filling breakfast option is easy to store in a portable container, like a jar or Tupperware. The night before you head out, mix chia seeds, your favorite milk, and any sweeteners or flavorings you want (like maple syrup or vanilla extract) in a jar or container. Let it sit in the fridge overnight, and you’ll wake up to a thick, creamy pudding that we like to top with fresh fruit, nuts, or granola. This isn’t a crowd favorite as the texture sometimes throws people off, but it’s one of those “if you like it, you love it” kind of things. Quinoa Breakfast Bowls Quinoa breakfast bowls are a healthy, savory breakfast option that you can meal prep before you hit the road. These are easy to prepare in big batches, too. Cook quinoa according to package instructions and mix it with your favorite add-ins (we suggest scrambled eggs, sautéed veggies, and avocado). Store the mixture in a portable container. (You could even heat this one up if you wanted to.)
